Books in Podcast Format

Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past few years, you have probably heard of Podcasting. Again, you would have to be living on the moon to have missed the rise of books in Podcast format. But, did you know that you can get these things for free?

One of the best sources for these types of books is Podiobooks.com (http://www NULL.crunchbase NULL.com/company/podiobooks-com), this site if host to over three hundred titles and still growing.  Most of these are wrtten by people you have never heard of and a few authors of some fame.  It has become the gateway for which several have entered the “dead tree” publishing world and will no doubt produce more.  You can either download whole books or set up your favorite pod-catcher to download them one episode at a time.  All this for free, but I do encourage you to donate to your favorite authors via links on their respctive book’s page.  The authoers do get 75% of the donation and the rest goes to help pay for running the site.

  • J C Hutchins is the author of the extreemly popular 7th Son Trilogy and has just released a print work called “Personal Affects: Dark Arts”. His trilogy has left me on the edge of my seat while listening to it.  I have only listed to the first two parts and will be downloading the third this weekend.  He really hooks you in and makes you love and care about his characters.  When he kills one off, you feel the loss.  I am looking forward to hearing the third part of this wonderful work and can not wat to have all my questions answered.

  • Greg is a self-described “hack” but his books are full of humour and wonderful storylines that take unexpected turns and keep you entertained.  I’ve listened to almost everything he has released and really enjoyed “Hard Boiled Headline”, a story about a unique use of the free press to effect change in a sleepy southern town.  His characters, like Sigler’s, are brash and in your face but always leaving you holding your sides from laughter.  If you need a good laugh, this is your guy.

Head on over to podiobooks.com and check them out, you will be glad you did.  While you are there, check out the other fine books availbe.  If you like iTunes (http://www NULL.apple NULL.com/itunes/), you can also find much of the podiobooks.com library available for downloading too.  If you really like the author, consider giving them a donation or buying something from their websites.

There are also other sources of Podcast books, but most will charge you an arm and a leg for them.  I have nothing agaist that and will most likely custom them as well, but not until I exhaust the library available from podiobooks.com.
