Typically this time of year, people in the United States and Canada (They got to do it last month.) start thinking about what they are thankful for. Well, I have not done this in a while, so here is my short list.
- …having a wonderful and loving wife who puts up with just enough crap from me.
- …being the father of a young lady who never stops surprising me.
- …having parents that taught me it doesn’t matter what you do in life, as long as you are happy doing it.
- …having a friend in my brother whom at one time, could not be in the same room as me for a very long time without resorting to a fight over something. Now we hang out and have a grand time.
- …having a job in these troubled times. It may not be much, but at least it keeps me out of trouble.
- …Facebook reconnecting me with long lost relatives and old chums from school and former jobs. It rocks to see how my nephews and nieces are doing.
It has also been great to have an avenue to get in touch with those that were around me as I was growing up. And funny to see how much we haven’t changed in the least. - …living in a nation where we are free to worship however we feel we should and not have to hide what we are.
- …living in a nation that is slowing becoming more tolerable of all peoples, no matter their lifestyle or heritage.
- …family, friends, and pets.
I have not done that in years. It is a short list, but I mean every single word of it. Here’s hoping everyone who is reading this had a Happy Thanksgiving. And remember, it doesn’t matter where in the world you live, taking a day to reflect on things in life to be thankful for isn’t a bad idea.
