One of the greatest things about the internet is free software. Here are a few programs that I use and endorse. All these programs are known
to run on Windows Vista, your experience may vary with with other flavors of Windows. Sorry, I do not own a Mac or Linux computer. And I am just getting started playing with Win7.

(Adware/Spyware Remover — Freeware)
Some “free” programs and web sites place tracking codes and ad software on your computer. AdAware (http://www NULL.lavasoft NULL.com/) scans your memory, registry, hard, removable and optical drives for known data-mining, aggressive advertising, and tracking components. It then lists the results and offers to remove or quarantine the components. SpyBot (http://www NULL.safer-networking NULL.org/en/home/) Search & Destory (see below) generally finds more spyware, biut Ad-Aware catches some SpyBot does not. Be sure to read the documentation before having Ad-Aware remove any files.
ArsClip (http://www NULL.joejoesoft NULL.com/cms/showpage NULL.php?cid=97)
(Clipboard Extender — Freeware)
Have you even wished the Windows clipboard could hold more than one item at a time? ArsClip allows this. It monitors the clipboard and keeps track of the entries. Press a configurable hotkey and select an item (or items) from a popup menu to quickly paste into another application. If you do a lot of cut and paste, you will soon fall in love with this program.

(Anti-virus Software — Free)
This is about the only Anti-Virus Software that does almost everything the Big Boys do, including regular updates for free. It has a wide variety of options but still has a fairly easy interface.

(Text Editor — Free)
This is a full screen, get rid of distractions, text editor. Here are some of the cool features:

- Word, page and character counts are updated live as you type.
- Easy use timer. Perfect for timed writing sessions and word wars. When the time is over, it will tell you how many words you wrote in that period.
- Spell Checker.
- **Cool Feature for NaNoWriMo** Target Count. Displays completed percentage. You can choose units: words, pages, lines, paragraphs or characters.
- And many more excellent features.

(File Renaming Utility — Freeware)
Rename Master is a FREE utility designed to rename multiple files with a just few clicks. Anyone that has worked with websites, file archives, or collections of music, videos, or pictures has probably spent way too much time renaming hundreds of files.
This utility will add, remove, or replace parts of the filename with ease and also supports renaming via file properties, MP3 tags, JPEG JFIF and EXIF tags, and text files. Batch renaming that’s simple to use, yet still very powerful.
SpyBot Search & Destroy (http://www NULL.safer-networking NULL.org/index2 NULL.html)

Like Ad-Aware, SpyBot Search & Destory is an adware (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Adware) and spyware detection and removal tool. It also removes PC and Internet usage tracks, including browser history, temporary pages, cookies (with option to keep selected) and more. The program offers an attractive outlook-style interface and produces a detailed and easy to understand report before it deletes any files and allows you to deselect any item that you do not want to be processed. This is a more complex tool than Ad-Aware, but it seems to catch a lot of stuff that Ad-Aware misses. Be sure to read the documentation before having SpyBot remove any files
