Woof woof, thrill-seekers! Cooper the News Hound here, back with a bone-chilling edition of my weekly diggings. 🦴 With Halloween just around the corner 🎃, I thought it was the paw-fect time to sniff out some truly spooky spots for your next getaway. 🗺️ Forget your average vacation; we’re talking about hotels where the guests check in, but they don’t always check OUT! 😨
So, grab your Scooby Snacks and your ghost-hunting goggles 🥽, because we’re about to embark on a tour of the top 5 most haunted hotels in the world. Be warned, though: you might want to leave the lights on tonight! 💡
1. 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa, Eureka Springs, Arkansas
This historic hotel isn’t just a place to rest your weary paws 🐾; it’s also a hotbed of paranormal activity! Known as “America’s Most Haunted Hotel,” the Crescent Hotel has a history as dark as a moonless night. Back in the day, it was a cancer hospital run by a rather shady character named Norman Baker, who claimed to have a miracle cure (spoiler alert: he didn’t! 🧪).
Now, the hotel is teeming with ghostly guests who never quite “checked out.” There’s Theodora, a sweet old lady who likes to hang out in Room 419, still searching for that elusive cure. Then there’s Michael, an Irish stonemason who fell to his death during the hotel’s construction. He’s usually spotted around the roof, probably making sure no one else meets his unfortunate fate.
But wait, there’s more! Don’t forget about Breckie, the playful ghost boy who loves to bounce his ball down the hallways. And if you’re a cat person, you might just catch a glimpse of Morris, the resident ghost kitty. (Just be careful he doesn’t try to use your face as a scratching post! 🙀)
Room 218 is rumored to be the most haunted room in the hotel. Guests have reported seeing hands in the bathroom mirror (yikes! 🪞), hearing screams from the ceiling, and feeling an overall sense of dread. So, if you’re feeling brave, book a night in 218 and see what goes bump in the night!
2. The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado
Ever heard of a little book called “The Shining?” 📖 Well, this is the very hotel that inspired Stephen King to write his iconic horror masterpiece! Nestled in the breathtaking (and slightly eerie) Rocky Mountains, the Stanley Hotel is a haven for ghost hunters and fans of the macabre.
While the hotel doesn’t offer a detailed list of its resident ghosts, the stories are as plentiful as the mountain views. Guests have reported hearing phantom piano music 🎹 echoing through the halls, seeing ghostly children playing in the corridors, and encountering the spirit of Mrs. Stanley herself, the original owner of the hotel.
If you’re looking for a truly immersive “Shining” experience, book a stay in Room 217, the room where Stephen King stayed when he got the inspiration for his novel. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself wanting to “redrum” by the end of your stay! 🪓
3. Omni Parker House, Boston, Massachusetts
This historic Boston hotel has seen its fair share of famous guests, including Charles Dickens and John F. Kennedy. But it’s not just the living who grace its halls. The Omni Parker House is also known for its resident ghosts, who seem to enjoy the hotel’s luxurious amenities just as much as the living guests.
While the hotel doesn’t advertise its ghostly residents, guests have reported encountering a gentleman in a top hat 🎩 who likes to wander the halls, a playful spirit who enjoys hiding guests’ belongings, and even the ghost of Charles Dickens himself, who’s been spotted in the hotel’s library. (Maybe he’s working on a sequel to “A Christmas Carol”? ✍️)
4. The Emily Morgan Hotel, San Antonio, Texas
Built in 1924 as a medical facility (notice a trend here? 🏥), the Emily Morgan Hotel has a long and spooky history. With its close proximity to the Alamo, it’s no wonder this hotel is steeped in tales of the paranormal.
Guests have reported seeing a woman in a white dress 👰♀️ wandering the 12th and 14th floors, possibly a former nurse who still tends to her patients. Others have received mysterious phone calls in the middle of the night 📞, with no one on the other end. (Maybe it’s just ghosts trying to make a prank call? 👻)
5. The Langham, London, England
Okay, okay, I know this one isn’t in America, but I couldn’t resist including it! This luxurious London hotel is said to be one of the most haunted hotels in all of Europe. With a history dating back to the Victorian era, it’s no wonder this place is crawling with ghosts!
Room 333 is said to be the most haunted room in the hotel, with guests reporting seeing the ghost of a Victorian-era man who only appears in October. (Maybe he’s just trying to get a jump start on his Halloween costume? 🧛) Other ghostly sightings include a man in military garb 🪖, a German prince 👑, and even Napoleon III himself, who apparently likes to hang out in the basement.
That’s a wrap, ghost hunters!
So, there you have it: five haunted hotels that are sure to give you a thrill (and maybe a few sleepless nights!). Just remember to pack your courage, your camera 📸, and maybe a few extra pairs of underwear, just in case! Happy haunting, and don’t forget to tell them Cooper the News Hound sent you! 🐾
