Freebie Friday: Adobe AIR

Adobe AIR is a cross-operating system runtime that lets developers combine HTML, Ajax, Adobe Flash®, and Flex technologies to deploy rich Internet applications (RIAs) on the desktop.” Okay, now that you know what it is, you prolly want to know what it does. Most people who have heard of Adobe AIR most likely have used twhirl, a Twitter client. But there is a lot more out there for this RIA “widget” platform.

A few apps that I recommend are:

TweetDeck: This is a more powerful Twitter app that allows you to group your tweets by category if you wish or just mind the whole stream at once. I use it because I can sort out my feeds and keep on top of those topics that are really important to me and still keep an eye on my full stream. For a better description of this product check out the website.

Scoop: Brings your Google Reader feeds to your desktop. Features: keeps track of multiple Google Reader accounts, Read, tag, and star your scoops/posts and synchronize it back with Google.

Focused: Focused is basically a text box for writing what ever you want. The difference between this and other “notepad” type apps, is that it covers the screen and helps you focus on your writing. I use it when I’m brainstorming, it really works well.

Those are just a few of the apps you can get for Adobe AIR, there are many more that can be found on the platform’s website. I’m sure there are more apps out there then the ones highlighted by Adobe, if you know of any, please let me know.
